Tutoring ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students
Volunteers meet with ESOL students for one-on-one conversation classes or hold conversation groups with multiple students at the Log School or at one of our other sites.

Guest Speaker

FDNH’s Girls Groups host female guest speakers to talk with program participants about a range of issues.  Guest speakers are needed in the Job ROCK Program (job readiness for teens) to discuss career opportunities with program participants.

Development Assistant

Federated Dorchester Neighborhood Houses, Inc. (FDNH) is looking for a volunteer to work in the development department in the executive office.  This is a great opportunity to gain experience in fundraising at a nonprofit organization.  This volunteer will assist in event planning, mail campaigns, marketing and grant preparation.

The hours are flexible, but would generally be between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Work in Out of School Time Programs

FDNH’s After School Programs are looking for volunteers to work with children between the ages of 6 and 13.  The volunteer will provide homework assistance/tutoring, help with projects in various subjects including art, science and computer and could accompany the children and staff on outings.  A CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) check is required for this position.

The Log School Food Pantry

The food pantry at one of our sites, The Log School, is in need of volunteers to help bag and distribute food to approximately 150 people per week. The food pantry serves families in the Bowdoin-Geneva neighborhood of Dorchester.

This volunteer opportunity takes place every Thursday from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Requirements: Some lifting is required for this position. We ask that volunteers commit to coming regularly and are responsible and sensitive to the clients we serve.
